The Omega yachts were built by Olympic Marine Shipyard in Lavrion (near Athens, Greece) between 1990 and 1994. Olympic Marine, developed by the well known Dutch yacht designer E.G. Van de Stadt, built thousands of sailing yachts during its operation.
Regular supervision during the construction of the five Omega 56 yachts was performed by the owner of Kimo, who is also owner of the company which was to be called Omega Yachts. For many years, the company engaged in the successful enhancement of GRP (glass reinforced plastic, the mainstay of production boat construction). Today the same company, still in business, uses the CNC technology
Naval architect and designer of the Omega model, John Triantafilopoulos, graduate of the Polytechnic Institute of Athens, Greece, enjoys an international distinction. Not only did he design the Omega 56, but also numerous other sailing vessels, such as the Athens 44, and the Triton 48 which participated in the Atlantic single-handed race. Plans for the Omega 56 are available on request.
Kimo, this Omega 56, has sailed the Mediterranean and has stayed in exclusive use by the owner and his family. The sister ship Niso found a Swedish buyer and is sailing in the archipelago of Stockholm. Another sister ship, Ploto, has sailed in Malaysia for almost twenty years. The two remaining Omega 56’s are being chartered in Greek waters.
Kimo has a commercial license and a permanent berth (transferable to the buyer) in Kalamaki Marina, Alimos, southwest of Athens, should a client want to consider her for charter. Greek VAT is paid. She is fully insurable and is insured at this time.
