GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Spring Breeze is a one-off timber hulled cutter designed by Fred Parker and built by C. Chapman in 1980. She was commissioned in 1982.
Her hull is built from Iroko, painted light blue with a gold cavita line and six circular portlights. Superstructure is varnished teak and cedar and the decks are teak laid over ply. She has a lead ballast keel and her wheel steered rudder is hung from a separate skeg.
The yacht`s overall layout allows two separate cockpits, each with its own companion way giving access below decks. The aft cockpit is the helming position with a wheel mounted on a pedestal. The forward cockpit allows easy access to the majority of sheet winches etc.
Each cockpit has instrument repeaters (2 in aft cockpit) that can call up any of the functions of the main instrumentation. There are similar repeater installed at the chart table below and in the forward locker for the anchor, chain and hydraulic windlass.
ACCOMMODATION
Below deck, Spring Breeze is fitted out with interior furnishings constructed mainly from varnished teak and painted ply. Her upholstery, mattresses and cushions are in light blue fabric that was replaced n 2013.
The companion steps from the aft cockpit lead down to a substantial navigation area with a large chart table (with instrument repeater for all functions) amidships directly opposite the foot of the steps. Turning aft from here are two quarter berths (one each side). Forward of the starboard quarter berth is a separate heads compartment with a shower, hand basin and sea toilet.
The passage on the port side of the chart table and engine room (situated amidships immediately forward) gives access to the forward accommodation and provides space for a linear galley with 3 burner gas cooker, with oven and grill, twin stainless steel sinks, refrigerator, two freezers and plenty of storage.
To starboard of the engine room is a separate skipper`s cabin with single berth and and basin.
Immediately forward of the engine room and also accessed by the companion steps from the forward cockpit, is the main saloon with settees either side and a central dining table constructed from varnished timber, inlaid with a "compass" design and incorporating a cutlery drawer. The dining area provides seating for at least six.
Headroom in this area is more than 6ft - substantially higher beneath the coachroof.
Outboard of the settees in the main saloon main is a raised pilot berth each side.
An opening in the bulkhead at the forward end of the main salon gives access to a cabin with double berth to starboard. To port of this is a heads compartment with marine toilet, hand basin and shower.
Beneath the foredeck and aft of the anchor chain locker and accessed by steps beneath a large glazed opening hatch, is a substantial workshop with workbench and vice and plenty of storage for warps etc.
Anchor chain locker forward of workshop has an instrument repeater that can call up any function on the network. There are similar repeaters in each of the two cockpits.
RIG
Spring Breeze`s cutter rig has a gold anodised keel stepped mast and boom by Kemp Spars. Attached to the front of the mast is a short spinnaker pole that can be used to pole out headsails.
The outer and inner forestays each have furling gear by Reckmann.
Standing rigging including running backstays is in stainless steel wire.
The mainsail is slab reefed and has a rigid vang/kicker unit.
